It's Here! It's Here! The Van is Here!

OH…MY…GOSH!!

It’s here!

Following much anticipation, the mega van has arrived after being stuck in Halifax for some time. It was unloaded from the railcar this week and has finally made it home to us! From here on, we will call “it”, “she”, because we know that only great things come from feminine.

And, I foresee lots of great things to come.

And so she will be: Black Betty. (I'm betting you can hear the tune right about now!)

A couple of months ago, we got wind that many of the imported vans had been held up in Halifax. For awhile, we thought the van might not make it here on time to hit the road by Canada Day weekend, as originally planned.  Now that she has landed in the west, we can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Even though we had her in our possession after Matt drove her home from the dealership, there wasn’t much time for me to drive Black Betty and practice handling a large vehicle because already, she had beauty appointments. But I’m okay with that.  It means that I might just have to get in, point ‘er, and figure it out as I roll.

As a precaution though, if you see me coming, you'll want to give me a bit of space!

I did, however, get to drive the kids to school with her and everyone was thrilled!!  Shortly after dropping the kids at school, we brought Black B to OK Tire where Manny hooked us up with a sweet set of wheels to fancy her up.  Then Matt was off to introduce Betty to the highway to lay down some sweet kilometers to Red Deer, AB where Overland Explorer will take over and transform her to suit our adventure travel.

Thumbs up for Manny at OK tire for hooking us up in a timely fashion so we could get the van on it's way to Overland in Red Deer, AB.

We’re confident that Overland will do what it takes to get her to us on schedule, as they have been excellent to deal with so far.  We are certainly eager to have her back so that we can figure out how we want to pack her. For now, Matt, my favourite engineer, has taken many measurements so that we can at least begin to imagine.

Things are falling into place and we are getting very excited for our Canada Day kick-off weekend! The piles of gear continue to accumulate around the house and they’re starting to look pretty big. We will load Black Betty up and hit the road the day after school is out.  We are planning on living the van life for the entire summer and making it back to our ‘real’ life the day before school starts in September.

But, the thought has crossed my mind: What if we can’t fit it all in?!

Is that even possible? These mom-wheels are huge!
